2009 Reliant Dog Show big success for Frisbee Club
The club has been performing at the Houston dog show every year since 1993 and the crowds in the stands get bigger each year. Performing on Friday for the 1st time, as well as their normal Saturday and Sunday shows, the club showed off new members as well as seasoned pros.
Many spectators visited club members after the shows and others plan to come out to the club's meeting in mid August to learn more about canine Frisbee.

04/25/2009 Skyhoundz Southern Championships in Dallas

Skyhoundz Southern Championship in Dallas
Many Houston teams made the yearly trek up to Dallas in late April to compete against other teams in the Skyhoundz Southern Championships.
Teams from Denver, Chicago, Oklahoma City, Lubbock, Austin, Houston as well as Dallas battled mother nature and 40mph guest of wind for a right to go to the Skyhoundz World Championships in the fall.
Several Houston rookie dogs made their 1st appearences at a competition. Zydeco made her first appearence in over 2 years after hip replacement surgery. All had a wonderful time as the Dallas Dog and Disc Club always puts on a great event.

03/29/2009 USDDN Texas Nationals Qualifier in Houston

USDDN Texas Nationals for the 4th year in Pearland
Bigger and better than before, the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club hosted their USDDN qualifier in conjunction with the city of Pearland and their fund raising efforts for the city's animal shelter.
This 2 day event was held in conjunction with dog dock diving, a full carnival, a 3K fun run and much more. Competitors from Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Antonio, Denver and Austin made the trip for the annual competition.

02/28/2009 Houston members compete in Florida Quadruped

Several teams from Houston competed in Orlando, Florida at the 1st Quadruped competition for 2009.
This event is strickly long distance. Paired into heats, teams try to outlast others as they launch the disc down field. Their 4 legged partners judging speed, angle of attack and more as they make their catches.
Top 10 finishes including Team Karma & LeRoy Golden at 53 yrs as well as Team Wendy with Eugene Hensley with a long throw of 44 1/2 yards.

02/07/2009 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo demonstrations

For the fourth year in a row, members of the HCFDC club participated in "Rodeo in the Park" in conjunction with the Houston Livestock show and Rodeo on Saturday, February 7th, 2008.
Over 15 teams participated including several new members and their rookie pups. A good event to get the dogs used to crowds, children and more. "Blaze", the rodeo clown, even participated!
The event brings the sights and sounds of the local rodeo to kids that otherwise might not be able to attend the big event. Click here to see photos from team member Anita Leung

02/07/2009 Awards for 2008 Rookie and Outstanding Members

Brandon Burris was selected by the HCFDC board as 2008 Rookie of the Year and Denise Carpenter was selected by the HCFDC board as 2008 Outstanding Member of the Year.
Both show outstanding improvement in their disc skills as well as great support for the club on and off the field. Brandon has traveled to different competitions and has shown much improvement with Sergent. Denise is always there to help with a big smile and never seems to stop as she greets new members and runs out on the field with her Super Nova to perform.
On behalf of the board, congratulations to you both. You make us very proud!!

01/03/2009 Kathy May crosses rainbow bridge

Kathy May passed away early Saturday, Jan.3rd after a long battle with cancer, she was 61.
Kathy was one of the pioneers in the sport of canine Frisbee. With her husband of 40+ year, Mike Miller, Kahty competed, demonstrated and taught the sport we dearly love for over 20 years.
A holder of 2 lifetime achievement awards (Ashley Whippet Invitational and Skyhoundz), Kathy was always in the mix at any competition and enjoying every minute of it. Her spirit and glowing smile will be missed.

Mark McNitt and Zydeco were guest on KTRH's "Your Pets Health", a weekly radio show discussing pet health and other pet topics. Dr. Beale with Gulf Coast Vet. Hospital interviewed Mark and Zydeco in the studio.

10/25/2008 Humane Society of Montgomery Co "Mutt Strutt"

The flying Frisbee dogs were at it again in The Woodlands. The Humane Society of Montgomery County was again hosting their annual "Mutt Strutt" fund raiser in Town Center and the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club was front and center. HCFDC has participated in this event with Frisbee competitions or demonstrations since 2000.
Performing Frisbee dog demonstrations, new members as well as seasoned teams performed in front a large audience. During their breaks, a beginners class was held including demonstrations with puppies.

10/04/2008 IDC Championships-St. Louis, MO

2008 Purina Incredible Dog Challenge Finals were held in St. Louis this October. Houston's own Pennie Mahon and Spinner participated in the canine disc challenge.
Team Spinner placed 3rd in the competition missing the top position by 1 point. This was the 2nd year Team Spinner was invited to attend this event.
The event will be televised on ESPN 2 Nov 9th, 3pm central and ABC Sports Dec 21st at 1pm.

09/27/2008 Bridgeland Demonstrations

Under beautiful skys, the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club performed Frisbee dog demonstrations at Bridgeland, a master planned community in northwest Houston, to help in the grand opening of their new park and recreational area.
About 15 members participated both days which included some newer members. In addition, the club also performed its 1st ever "Puppy" demonstration with some of the club's youngest members (1-3 months old).

09/13/2008 Space City Disc Dog Championships Cancelled

The HCFDC was preparing to host their 1st ever major canine Frisbee tournament under lights on the evening of Saturday, September 13th in Houston when Hurricane Ike, a catagory 2 storm, hit the area.
The club tried to reschedule the event for the following weekend, but due to electrical outages across the city and many shortages of gasoline and hotel rooms, the event was cancelled and rescheduled in Dallas on October 11th, 2008.

06/28/2008-Cantoni demonstrations

The canine disc dogs of Houston participated with the Cantoni furniture store here in Houston as they promote canine rescues and shelters across the country in their stores.
This effort with the Cantoni stores is a month long event and the club provided Frisbee dog demonstrations at one of the weekend events.

05/01/2008-Pennie Mahon becomes 4th President of club

Pennie Mahon was voted in as the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club's 4th President. This will be for a 4 year term.
Pennie, and her husband Pat, joined HCFDC in 2000 with her dog Air Bandita. From 2004-2008 she was the club's event coordinator.
In addition to the club's new President, a board was formed to assist in running the day to day operations. Several members were voted in and are now coordiators for new members, events, web/email, promotion/marketing, field prep and merchandise.

04/19/2008-Jersey Village demonstration

The high flying dogs from the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club provided canine entertainment at the yearly Post Elementary Schools "Fun Day" for the children of the school.
The park next to the school in Jersey Village is the home base for the club in northwest Houston. Other activities included face painting, water ballon fights, police and fire dept demonstrations and more.

03/29/2008-USDDN "Texas Nationals" in Pearland, TX

HCFDC hosted the spring "Texas Nationals" in Pearland again this year. The event, a qualifier for the USDDN championships later in the year, was held in conjunction with the city of Pearland and their fund raising efforts for the city's animal shelter.
This 2 day event brought many teams in from the Dallas, Austin and San Antonio areas as well.

03/16/2008-Houston Humane Society demonstration

In front of an estimated crowd of about 3,000 in downtown Houston, the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club performed demonstration canine Frisbee tricks at the Houston Humane Society's annual "Mutt Strutt".
Other activities took place including a 5K fun "strutt", costume contest and more. Many spectators tell us they come back yearly specifically to see our Frisbee dogs in action.

02/02/2008-Rodeo in the Park Demo

The Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club performed Frisbee Dog demonstrations at the Rodeo in the Park. For the 3rd year, HCFDC teamed up with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to help bring the action of the rodeo to children who might not be able to attend the event.
16 teams performed and later invited the children to meet the dogs up close.

07/22/2006-2006 Reliant Dog Show

Once again, the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club was out in force entertaining thousands of spectators at the 2006 Reliant World Series of Dog Shows, one of the largest dog shows in the country.
The club provided canine Frisbee demonstrations and manned a booth in the main hall answering questions and encouraging many to visit us at one of our future club meetings.
Over 40 members and guest represented HCFDC plus special guest Pam Martin from Dallas and Red Ruff (video) from Petco.

07/06/2006-Channel 11 Interview

Channel 11, KHOU-CBS in Houston, interviewed several members of the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club recently in conjunction with the club's 15 year anniversary!
Jonathan Walton, the morning news entertainment reporter, came out and got a lesson on our favorite sport "Canine Frisbee". In addition, we discussed the club and the over 40 activities we do every year including charity demonstrations, hosting competitions and teaching newer members.

06/06/2006-Meyer Branch Library Demonstration

The children were out in force as the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club helped launch the 2006 Meyer Branch Library summer reading program.
About 100 kids and adults braved plus 90 degree heat to watch the high flying Frisbee dogs. After several freestyle routines, the kids were given an opportunity to throw their own Frisbee to the dogs. In addition, the children asked questions about the sport and how they can train their dogs.
A special thank you to Teams Luna, Chevy, Ringo, Daisy, Jackson and Zydeco for coming out on a weekday to help the children with their reading program.

05/21/2006 2005-2006 End of the Year Party

The club once again held an "End of the Year" party. This year hosted by the Hickman family in beautiful Cinco Ranch.
Many ask why we have an "End of the Year party" in May? Typically the club does not meet June-August. However, this will change as members voted to continue meeting through the summer on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 6pm.
The party was a big hit with lots of food and drink plus plenty of room for the dogs to roam. Click here to see some photos of the event.
Awards were handed out including "Top Rookie" honors going to Tom Sawyer and Huck for most improved team throught the last year. And our "Most Outstanding Member" award going to Pennie Mahon. Her endless efforts over the years have propelled the HCFDC to be one of the most respected clubs in the country!

04/22/2006 Skyhoundz Regional - Dallas

It was HOT in big D! 10 members from the Houston club traveled to Dallas for the 2006 Skyhoundz Regional. The weather did not disappoint...90 degrees, 15mph winds..ideal for Frisbee-NOT!
Oh well, you can't control the weather. The members had a great time and many did so well to receive invitations for the Skyhoundz World Championships in Atlanta this fall. Click here to see photos from the event.
Those possibly going to Atlanta include Team Chevy for Toss and Fetch. Team Spinner and Team Zydeco in Expert Freestyle. Team Nova also won multiple awards in Dallas. Click here to see a breakdown of the scores. Great job everyone!

04/01/2006 Festival on the Green - The Woodlands

HCFDC provided canine Frisbee demonstrations to thousands recently in The Woodlands as they opened their 100th park, Town Green.
About 20 club members were on hand including two families that live in The Woodlands. Brandi, a high flying Doberman from the area, was a particular crowd pleaser.
The grass on the field had just been laid as was still a little "squishy", but the crowds and the dogs had a wonderful time. Click here to see more pictures from this event.

Spring 2006 Houston Competitions

The Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club hosted several competitions this spring, all in new locations.
In March, the club held it's first ever 2 day event in conjunction with the City of Pearland. The USDDN Texas Nationals and a UFO local.
In April, HCFDC in conjunction with the city of Jersey Village held a 2nd two day event with UFO. The 2006 Space City Disc Championships as well as a Long Distance Shot Out.

02/11/2006 PAWS fun run, downtown Houston

PAWS once again asked the Houston Canine Frisbee Disc Club to particpate in their yearly Mutt Strutt in downtown Houston. HCFDC has been performing at this event for many years.
The weather this February Saturday was the worst. Mid 30s, windy, raining was not the best for the humans. However the dog didn't seem to mind. MORE PHOTOS HERE

02/04/2006 2006 Rodeo in the Park

HCFDC performed for the 1st time in conjunction with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on Saturday, February 4th. The 2006 Rodeo in the Park is an event sponsored by the HLSR and brings the sights and sounds of the rodeo to under privilaged and handicapped children from across Houston.
The club was given an excellent, be it slightly hilly, location to perform just to the side of the main concourse. Many members were able to come out with just 3 days notice and they all put on a great show. Those that did not perform allowed their dogs to be petted by the children. A good time was had by all!
